“30: Very Best of Deep Purple is a 1998 compilation album by English rock band Deep Purple, celebrating 30 years of the successful band. There are two CD versions of the album, a single CD and a double CD. The vinyl version was a double LP printed on purple vinyl, and the tracklisting was identical to the single CD version. The single CD version concentrates on the greatest hits of Deep Purple through the years, and contains mostly edited single versions of the songs, for example "Child in Time" which was over ten minutes long in its original form on the album Deep Purple in Rock. The album was certified Silver on 2 December 2005 by the BPI, selling 60,000 copies in the UK. It peaked on the Australian charts at number 41.”

“Relationships and chance encounters is the background for the formation of US act Visual Cliff. Rob Perez (guitars) had become aquainted with Rick Mals (drums) in the 80's, and in the early 90's with Rob Klan (keyboards). In both cases circumstances saw to it that they drifted apart though, but in 1999 Perez sought out Rick with some ideas in mind in terms of creating music together, and a chance encounter with Klas in a restaurant and then later in the year hooking up with Eric Fuller (bass) resulted in a band forming - more or less. A demo was made at first, but as Fuller had an education to finish, as well as getting married, concrete results didn't appear until 2003, with the release of Visual Cliff's debut album "Lyrics For The Living"...”

It was preceded by the hit single "Don't Get Me Wrong" and also included the huge hit "Hymn to Her (She Will Always Carry On)". The 16 bonus tracks include b-sides, live tracks, different mixes and versions, as well as the band's two contributions to the soundtrack of Bond film THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, co-written by Chrissie Hynde and John Barry. Also included is the band's cover of Burt Bacharach's "Windows of the World" (with Johnny Marr on guitar).

In an attempt to keep with the times, the group chose a harder-rocking sound, which didn't sit well with their fondness for jazz and blues. As a result, the album is a turgid, tiresome collection of heavy rockers and blues that don't go anywhere.
