Dylan rushed out New Morning in the wake of the commercial and critical disaster Self Portrait, and the difference between the two albums suggests that its legendary failed predecessor was intentionally flawed. New Morning expands on the laid-back country-rock of John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline by adding a more pronounced rock & roll edge...

Featuring a broader array of styles than any previous Linda Ronstadt record, Simple Dreams reconfirms her substantial talents as an interpretive singer. Ronstadt sings Dolly Parton ("I Never Will Marry") with the same conviction as the Rolling Stones ("Tumbling Dice"), and she manages to update Roy Orbison ("Blue Bayou") and direct attention to the caustic, fledgling singer/songwriter Warren Zevon ("Poor Poor Pitiful Me" and "Carmelita"). The consistently adventurous material and Ronstadt's powerful performance makes the record rival Heart Like a Wheel in sheer overall quality.

There's an old saying that one is only as good as the people with whom one collaborates. Judging by the list of musical contributors to Hector Zazou's Sahara Blue, Zazou is quite good indeed. Among many others, those adding their own touch to Zazou's album include Bill Laswell, Dead Can Dance, John Cale, David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Tim Simenon. Zazou devised the album as a mix of musical styles set to lyrics/vocals taken from the pen of Arthur Rimbaud. While it might appear like a pretentious undertaking on paper, the album is a cohesive slice of eclectic music-making. Jazzy spoken word songs such as "Ophelie" intermingle with throbbing dance-oriented numbers like "I'll Strangle You" and quiet, peaceful piano-based meditations such as "Harar et les Gallas." Dead Can Dance duo Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard work their particular magic on "Youth," exchanging vocals, and on "Black Stream," where Perry's dark, somber synth weeps around Gerrard's stunning vocals and yang chin. Zazou himself mostly stays in the background, providing production and electronic sounds, allowing the players to showcase their abilities.

With a career that spans an impressive five decades, the Groundhogs are a veritable British Blues-Rock institution. With a line-up cemented around Peter Cruickshank on bass guitar, Ken Pustelnik on drums and fronted by singer, guitarist and principle songwriter Tony (T.S.) McPhee, this bluesy power trio were joined by harmonica toting Steve Rye for their full length debut, Scratching The Surface released on Liberty Records in 1968. With a reputation hard won by their incessant touring schedule, the band recorded Blues Obituary as a three piece in 1969, followed by Thanks Christ For The Bomb (1970), then hitting #5 with their most successful record, Split, in 1971 and rounded off by the fabulously titled Who Will Save The World? The Mighty Groundhogs (1972).

Pangée are a Canadian 5 piece instrumental progressive rock outfit which play in the territory of King Crimson and Anekdoten. Monster progressive jams which combine amazing bass/keyboard interplay in a heavy mellotron filled environment. Drums are nice and complex and really fit this music to perfection. Guitars playing is very sophisticated and at times remind of the fret work of Mr. Fripp. "Hymnemonde" is essentially 3 long epic tracks which are given lots of space to develop many truely progressive moments.

Black Cat Bone is a Southern Germany's best blues-rock group. The band formed in 1979 based around an excellent guitarist and singer, Hans McMinamin. Countless concerts in Germany and neighbouring European countries, in addition to their appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival have proved that their reputation as an extraordinary live band is well-earned. A variety of Blues legends such as Katie Webster, Alvin Lee, Mick Taylor, Sidney "Guitar Crusher" Selby or Rick Derringer were so impressed by the band, they booked them to tour with them as support. Music From The Body is the 1970 soundtrack album for the film The Body, directed by Roy Battersby. The music is a collaboration between Roger Waters (then of Pink Floyd) and Ron Geesin, who worked with Pink Floyd to co-write "Atom Heart Mother". Waters' pieces sound like what Pink Floyd were making between Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, and Zabriskie Point while Geesin is as twisted and unpredictable as much of his work has been. It sounds like what you'd expect from a "rock" soundtrack album from 1970, with music allegedly using parts of the body as a medium. The version of "Breathe" here has been said to be a precursor to what Waters would write again when putting together Dark Side Of The Moon. This is taken from the 1989 CD released by Harvest/EMI.

If Wishbone Ash can be considered a group who dabbled in the main strains of early-'70s British rock without ever settling on one (were they a prog rock outfit like Yes, a space rock unit like Pink Floyd, a heavy metal ensemble like Led Zeppelin, or just a boogie band like Ten Years After?), the confusion compounded by their relative facelessness and the generic nature of their compositions, Argus, their third album, was the one on which they looked like they finally were going to forge their own unique amalgamation of all those styles into a sound of their own...

Post Hardcore, Alternative, Trancecore | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 00:56:10 | 128 MB
Label: Hopeless Records | Release Year: 2015

On The Mindsweep you can hear the band display some of their rawest, angriest vocals as well as some of the most dulcet and delicate. Its even more diverse than normal as they have built more confidence and fearlessness to widen their influences further. Melody and aggression will always be an important side of what they do, but with this album there was also a concerted effort to concentrate on texture too. Alongside the core of our guitar, bass, drums, electronics set-up, there s so much new instrumentation and orchestration. Writing for and recording woodwind, brass and strings was so rewarding and really felt like it brought a new dimension to the music.

In its time, Bohemia was to Czechoslovakia what UK was to the international prog scene - a supergroup formed by the cream of the crop Czech prog and fusion musicians. "Burning Up The Night" was the last release. And that was in 1992. This cd is mostly keyboards and less guitar than what fans are used to, but still is catchy with lots of hooks. As with all their albums, it's impossible to pick a favorite. For Flash & The Pan fans an absolute must. The sound is a bit different from their prior outings but still astonishing. If you see it listed, get it, since it's hard to come by and that chance may never come again.
