Starting with the careening "From Out of Nowhere" driven by Roddy Bottum's doomy, energetic keyboards, Faith No More rebounded excellently on The Real Thing after Chuck Mosley's was fired. Given that the band had nearly finished recording the music and Mike Patton was a last minute recruit, he adjusts to the proceedings well...

We recorded this album as the title tells, in Vancouver 1997. The main man at Universal Records, Doug Morris, had personally signed us to the label. Why it has taken twelve years to get this music out, we don’t know… “it’s just the way it goes.” Never The Bride never give up. We have rescued our music from the vaults of The Armoury where our album was recorded with the late and legendary producer Bruce Fairbairn, who produced colossal platinum selling albums for Aerosmith, Metallica, Bon Jovi, INXS, Kiss and Van Halen. Sadly he died soon after our album was recorded. A great guy who really loved his music and Never The Bride. The musicians joining Nikki and Been on this album were Doug Boyle on guitars, Trevor Barry on Bass, Frosty Beadle on Drums and additional programming and keyboards from Canadian, John Webster. Our songs have now been mastered all these years later and brought to you by our own indie label, Lock Stock and Barrel Records...

German guitarist Michael Schenker, known for his distinctive guitar work with Scorpions, UFO and MSG, recently joined the cadre of Shrapnel guitar giants with "The Unforgiven". This CD captures some of Michael's best playing to date, in a classic hard rock/metal context true to his roots and his fans. Featuring phenomenal vocalist Kelly Keeling and powerful drummer Shane Gaalaas, "The Unforgiven" smokes with red-hot rockers like "Rude Awakening", "The Mess I've Made", "Pilot Of Your Soul" and more. Schenker shows no signs of slowing down.

For American audiences, the phenomenal worldwide success of Oasis was a little puzzling. That's because they only had part of the picture -- unless they were hardcore fans, they didn't hear nearly three albums of material released on B-sides and non-LP singles. Critics and fans alike claimed that the best of these B-sides were as strong as the best moments on the albums, and they were right. None of the albums had a song that rocked as hard as "Fade Away" (cleverly built on a stolen melody from Wham!'s "Freedom"), "Headshrinker," or "Acquiesce." There was nothing as charming as the lite psychedelic pastiche "Underneath the Sky" or the Bacharach tribute "Going Nowhere"; there was nothing as affecting as Noel Gallagher's acoustic plea "Talk Tonight" or the minor-key, McCartney-esque "Rockin' Chair," nothing as epic as "The Masterplan." Most bands wouldn't throw songs of this caliber away on B-sides, but Noel Gallagher followed the example of his heroes the Jam and the Smiths, who released singles where the B-sides rivaled the A-sides.

New Horizon is the fourth studio album by Northern Ireland rock band The Answer. The album, which was released on 30 September 2013, was produced by Little Angels frontman Toby Jepson and features artwork from the legendary designer Storm Thorgerson, who was working on the cover shortly before his death in April 2013. New Horizon is the band's first album with Napalm Records, with whom they signed the previous year. Blues-influenced hard rock band the Answer first came together in 2000 when guitarist Paul Mahon, then 18 years old and living in Northern Ireland, decided to put together a group with the help of a friend, bassist Micky Waters...

Fifteen years on from a debut that earned Brit and Mercury nominations, Tom McRae is an enduring outsider. The son of Christian missionaries, this songwriter from Essex decamped to the US a decade ago and is now based in France (he enjoys a loyal European following). McRae’s seventh album has a fire and brimstone flavour, and in his mid-forties he’s acquired the malevolent eloquence of Tom Waits and Nick Cave. On The High Life, he sings in a conspiratorial whisper over a rackety rhythm, while the majestic Americana of Christmas Eve, 1943 has him hoping for “one last shot of whisky, one last shot of lead” before descending to hell.

Given the dizzying array of solo albums released by Yes members, a compilation of their best solo work really is a splendid idea. Originating from Lyon, France Vortex is a band which would have had their deserved success in a fair world. The band came to be officially in April 1975, but its roots lay in the preceding bands in which the members played. One such band was called Testu Band which was mainly a Soft Machine cover band. "1975-1979" collects both of Vortex's self-releases albums: 1975's more improvisation-centric and smaller ensemble Vortex, and the more ambitious, complex and larger group release from 1979, Les Cycles de Thanatos. Nicely remastered, the set features additional bonus material from the time of each recording, making it the definitive document of a group still relevant three decades on.

The sound on the CD is superb - crystal clear and affording the highest homage to a bunch of musicians at their best. Saxophone, drums, keyboards, harmonizing vocals - it's all there. As the title of the album indicates, these guys, Climax Blues Band, were for Real on this album and they delivered. It's a pity there are only eight songs and total playing time is under 40 minutes but that's enough time to be in heaven before staying above the clouds by hitting the repeat button.

This album contains a remarkable show from what is sometimes referred to among the cognoscenti as Chris Hillman s 'Firefallin' Burrito Brothers' Tour. This was an early show on the tour and took place immediately following the demise of the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band. Hillman called up buddy and former FBB alumni Rick Roberts, who had recently formed a new band called Firefall. FF were practicing and playing together but did not yet have a record deal nor had they performed in front of an audience. So Roberts, along with his Firefall mates guitarist Jock Bartley (who had also, earlier, played with Gram Parsons), bassist Mark Andes (formerly of Spirit), and ex-Byrd/Burrito Michael Clarke, joined the temporary and hastily put together group which for the sake of simplicity were blandly dubbed the Chris Hillman Band. However, for the purposes of this gig at the famous Denver night-spot, Ebbets Field, they were referred to as Chris Hillman and Friends.

Eric Andersen got his start as a singer/songwriter just about the time the folk revival went bust in the mid-'60s, when the phrase "singer/songwriter" wasn't familiar, as it is today. Now, some 40 years later, Andersen continues to follow his muse, which includes a deep investment in the blues on the live Blue Rain. Andersen's voice seems to have grown richer and has developed more texture over the span of time, something that rarely happens to rock singers; as a result, his readings of familiar lyrics carry more weight. He kicks off the set with a slow, menacing version of Fred Neil's "The Other Side of This Life." For folk fans, the song is overly familiar, but Andersen's vocal provides a darker underpinning than the usual, adding a new dimension to this well-worn classic. This and songs like "The Blues Keep Fallin' Like the Rain" might even leave one to wonder if Andersen is channeling Neil. To sweeten the blues mix, Andersen is joined by a solid band that never overplays, giving Blue Rain a simple, no-frills approach.

This is one case where the legend really precedes the record itself. Cut for about 600 dollars in Jack Endino's studio over just a matter of days, this captures Nirvana at a formative stage, still indebted to the murk that became known as grunge, yet not quite finding their voice as songwriters. Which isn't to say that they were devoid of original material, since even at this stage Kurt Cobain illustrated signs of his considerable songcraft, particularly on the minor-key ballad "About a Girl" and the dense churn of "Blew." A few songs come close to that level, but that's more a triumph of sound than structure, as "Negative Creep" and "School" get by on attitude and churn, while the cover of "Love Buzz" winds up being one of the highlights because this gives a true menace to their sound, thanks to its menacing melody.

Vintage Music is a compilation series released by MCA Records in 1986. There were 10 volumes when released on vinyl and cassette but the compact disc versions put together two at a time, so there was a total of five CD's in the series: 1 & 2, 3 & 4, and so on. This series was remastered by Steve Hoffman from the best available master recordings, with a few songs taken from versions that had not been heard before. Notable is the version of Steppenwolf's "Born To Be Wild" used here.

Multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Robert Reed, announces the release of a unique new album, Sanctuary on Tigermoth Records. Sanctuary is produced, mixed and engineered by Robert Reed, who is joined by legendary Tubular Bells producers Tom Newman (as co-producer) and Simon Heyworth, who mastered the album. Robert Reed was inspired to become a musician and composer at the age of seven after discovering Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells. So inspired was he by the album, that he learned to play not just one, but all the instruments featured on the album. Sanctuary is the fruition of a decision that Robert made in January 2013 to utilise his abilities as a multi-instrumentalist and create an album in the style of Tubular Bells; he recalls: "I wanted to play all the instruments, and for all of them to be real; no synthesised or sampled instruments, just the real thing.Everything is played by hand by myself, except for guest vocalists, Synergy Vocals."

Todd Griffin is an American musician and a former member of The Graveyard Train. He is currently pursuing a solo career and has also gained fame as the singer to the first version of the theme song to the popular American television series That 70s Show. Todd Griffin was signed by Geffen Records in the 90's as the lead vocalist of The Graveyard Train. Today Griffin has broken away from the major labels and is in total control of driving his solo career in his chosen direction away from the darkness style of The Graveyard Train. Griffin's debut solo album "Trial By Fire" on the Northern Mechanical label shows his blended mystical spiritual hard rock style that has a calming effect filled with lightness which is about this artist reinventing himself not trying to make it in the business in a commercial sense...
