EAC Rip | FLAC (tracks & cue & log) | 501 MB | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 177 MB | Artwork (PNG 300 dpi) | 29 MB | 1:15:33
Genre: Space Rock / Psychedelic Rock / Prog Rock | Country: UK | Label: Beggars Banquet | BBQCD 235

Oceansize's debut "Effloresce" is a monolith in modern music, blending Alternative, Post Rock and Prog to a refreshing style. There is everything you expect from a modern band. Great melodies, complex time signatures, heavy parts and three guitars. By the way, I think the genre "Space Rock" doesn't fit that good. They should be changed into "Crossover Prog". The album starts with "I am the morning". It is an instrumental song, not that exciting. It is a bit Post rockish, though. "Catalyst" starts with a heavy riff with a mechanical mood. After a while the singing begins, companied with a nice guitar melody. The melody part and the heavy part alternate to create contrast. All in all a very nice track. "One Day this could all be yours" is a bit more experimental with distored vocals and spacey guitar parts.

Guru Guru's debut album shows why the band, even if it never reached the levels of appreciation and influence the likes of Can or Neu! did, still maintained a healthy reputation over the moons for its early work. Opening number "Stone In" has a quite appropriate title for a starting track -- it is wonderfully tripped out, to be sure, and if Manuel Gottsching was more of a guitar god, Genrich kicks up a lot of frazzled noise. The principle of the Trepte/Neumeier rhythm section seems to have been "find loud weird grooves and then play them, sometimes chaotically." Again, they aren't Can's wickedly effective combination of Holger Czukay and Jaki Leibezeit, but they're not just falling over themselves either.

A leap forward from their debut, this album shows the duo taking on extended song structures and a more varied and much improved vocal style. At times the material sounds like a precursor to the Buggles, as in the slick synths and harmonized vocals of the opening track, "Return to Foreverland." ...

Just like the albums her husband/producer Mutt Lange produced for Def Leppard, Shania Twain's albums are designed to generate hit singles for two or three years, which means that each of her blockbuster records -- 1995's The Woman in Me, 1997's Come On Over, 2002's Up! -- already seem like greatest-hits records, since they're filled with huge hits. This makes assembling an actual greatest-hits album a little difficult, since not only is the material overly familiar, but there are so many hits that they're difficult to fit on a single-disc collection...

A hard rock band from Newcastle, England, Geordie is mostly known for their lead vocalist, Brian Johnson, who would later join AC/DC. In 1972 and 1973, they had a few hits in the U.K., including the number six single "All Because of You" and "Can You Do It," which reached number 13. Their sound was influenced by British rock bands of the day such as Led Zeppelin, as well as some glam stompers, with Johnson's distinctively abrasive singing strongly in evidence...

Gäa from the German state of Saarland have become quite known in collectors’ circles thanks to their LP "Auf der Bahn zum Uranus" from 1974. In early 1975 they recorded three tracks for a, however, unfinished second album. They are simply brilliant and show how mature and inventive the band was at that time. The tracks have been rediscovered only recently and form the heart and major part of the CD, which also contains four minor bonus tracks from the 80s. Although these tracks are no longer progressive in the strict sense, they have been added for the sake of completeness and because there was time left...

Third is a 1970 double LP by Soft Machine, with each side of the original vinyl consisting of a single, long composition. Its music explores the emerging jazz fusion of the type present on Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, which was released just a few months earlier. Long considered one of the most innovative classics of jazz/rock of any era, Third was the first album to feature saxophonist Elton Dean, who passed away unexpectedly in 2006. In the Q & Mojo Classic Special Edition Pink Floyd & The Story of Prog Rock (2005), the album came #20 in its list of "40 Cosmic Rock Albums".

Following the 1983 release of Powell's third solo album "Octopus", it took another 9 years for him to come up with his fourth and final release prior to his untimely death. This album was recorded between Powell's two stints with Black Sabbath, and following its release he took a band on the road under the name Cozy Powell's Hammer. Once again, he calls upon a who's who of musicians to support him, although the line ups here are somewhat different to those which appeared on his first two albums.

Country, Americana, Folk Rock | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | Artworks | 00:43:21 | 127 MB
Label: Third Man Records | Release Year: 2015

On a sheer sonic level, the album is enthralling it's easy to get lost in the music, and Lynn sings with a vigor that's startling for a woman of 70 but it's an instant classic because of how that sound is married to set of songs that are among the strongest she's ever had. On her last studio album, she wrote only one song. Here, she's penned all 14 tracks, and there's a sense that these are songs that she needed to get out of her, particularly in a setting as intimate as this. While not all the songs are as explicitly personal as "Miss Being Mrs.," that's for the best, since the variety of styles and types of songs on Van Lear Rose -- everything from heartache ballads and country rave-ups to story-songs and gospel illustrate the depth and range of her writing. These are songs that hold their own with her greatest hits, and while it's unlike anything else she's cut, this is surely one of her great albums.

A 17-track career retrospective that not only spans the mid-'70s to the mid-'90s, but encompasses solo cuts and songs that John Waite recorded with the Babys in the '70s and Bad English in the '80s. For all that, it's remarkably inconsequential right-of-center mainstream commercial rock, whether he's playing guitar-based pop/rock with the Babys or doing the power ballad thing with Bad English. Includes his 1984 number one solo single "Missing You," the Bad English smashes "When I See You Smile" and "Price of Love," and several smaller hits.

Changing bassists (adding Jason "Moose" Harris), but not the bass sound, NMA's next release, The Ghost of Cain, trades a little of its reverb for a MOR album which sold poorly in America. In Great Britan and Germany, however, the band realized a cult following. The sound was further expanded with the addition of Mark Feltham's harmonica on "Poison Street" and "Ballad." "Poison Steet" was released as a 12-inch dance remix and made a dent into that market. "Heroes," another song about the differences between generations is the highlight of the album.

"Hinten" is the sophomore album by Guru Guru which effectively confirms this power trio as a crucial item for the development of the krautrock movement that by 1971 had already become a melting pot of various sonic offerings converging on a common purpose of augmenting the language of rock and creating a peculiar edge to the avant-garde ideals that were being instilled in popular culture. This album is also famous (and infamous) for the cover photograph: a not too athletic male behind bearing a coarse tattoo that spreads on both buttocks. Well, the idea is clear in its intention to go against the two most recurrent trends in rock album sleeves: either a display of psychedelic figures based on a Modernistic approach or a manifestation of fantastic landscapes and characters where Surrealism and Romanticism unite. Not on this album sleeve, just that "lovingly" ugly image that I've already described and never will describe again.
