Elonkorjuu (Finnish for 'harvest') was formed in 1969 in the south-western Finnish town of Pori by the singer and guitarist Jukka Syrenius. In the autumn of 1970 the band were awarded second place in a music contest called Rockin' Suomen Mestaruus (Finnish Championship of Rock Bands). In the Seventies they released two albums, the first of which, ''Harvest Time'' (1972, EMI), is considered the most expensive Finnish collector's item, commanding a price of 500-1,000 euros. Their second album, ''Flying High, Running Fast'' (1978), was released under the English name of Harvest in the hope of breaking the band on the international market...

Ian Dury's primary appeal lies in his lyrics, which are remarkably clever sketches of British life delivered with a wry wit. Since Dury's accent is thick and his language dense with local slang, much of these pleasures aren't discernible to casual listeners, leaving the music to stand on its own merits. On his debut album, New Boots and Panties!!, Dury's music is at its best, and even that is a bizarrely uneven fusion of pub rock, punk rock, and disco. Still, Dury's off-kilter charm and irrepressible energy make the album gel, with the disco pulse of "Wake Up and Make Love With Me" making perfect sense next to the gentle tribute "Sweet Gene Vincent," the roaring punk of "Blockheads," and the revamped music hall of "Billericay Dickie" and "My Old Man".

This compilation (The Piccadilly Collection) is an updated release of classic Squeeze tunes, containing many of the favorites from Singles, 45s and Under (Pulling Mussels, Tempted), as well as newer material from the 1990s (Everything in the World, Some Fantastic Place). It includes a few other noteworthy songs (Hourglass, Love's Crashing Waves) that are worth having, as they are of the same quality as the material from "Singles". In addition, there are a few interesting tunes (Spanish Guitar, Elephant Girl) that are positive additions and are relatively unknown. This is a good compilation to buy if you need a Squeeze CD that covers the highlights but also adds some newer material.

The Legendary Performer series -- there were four on Elvis -- collected hits, non-hits, and previously unreleased studio and live recordings with snippets of interviews. While their importance has been diminished by the various collections that have been released since, many of which robbed the "rare" tracks from here, the albums are essential as albums nonetheless. Each one was issued with a booklet that included rare photos, old posters, session notes and Elvis memorabilia with captions that were generally a bit fannish. Should the reader take the four volumes and painstakingly transfer the material to tape in its correct chronology, he or she would have a more rational overview of Presley's career than the label has yet compiled.
